Year 6 - Trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
The Year 6 pupils had a wonderful day exploring a range of 2D and 3D artwork. They took part in a walk, talk and make workshop in the morning where they got to draw a range of different sculptures by artists such as
Barbara Hepworth, Kenny Hunter, David Nash and Niki de Saint Phalle. They finished their exciting morning by creating their own animal head out of clay inspired by artist Ai Weiwei Circle of Animals sculptures. In the afternoon we explored the Robert Indiana exhibition and made our own mini sculptures. The day ended with a walk around the park to view a rather thought-provoking sculpture by Damien Hirst called 'The Virgin Mother'.
"I liked doing the five minute drawing of each sculpture" Sadie
"I thought the clay was fun. I liked how you can express your feelings through the clay. It was great being outside and taking inspiration from nature. It amazed me how all the sculptures were handmade." Elsie
"I liked how every artist had their own style. I liked looking at art outdoors." Rosie
