The Great Mowden Charity Bake Off

The Great Mowden Charity Bake Off

On Monday 27th November, The Mowden Hall Parents' Association organised a Great British Bake Off style event, for parents and children to submit baked goods and crafts, in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service. Children voted earlier in the term for their charity of choice and so we were delighted to support GNAAS with this event.

Last year, The PA organised a similar event, which itself was very successful, but it is fair to say that this year's event surpassed 2022 by some considerable distance. With more than 100 entries, The Small Dining Room was awash with incredible biscuits, cakes, traybakes, cupcakes and every other imaginable delicious treat - we even had actual snow globes made of shortbread with edible windows! Thankfully, Mrs Sandy Chattree had arranged for professional judging this year, in the form of a slightly dubious Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood look-a-likes and their task was nigh-on impossible - the standard was so high! That said, a decision had to be made, and the winners were confirmed as:

Baked Goods:

1. Lelia's Mowden Masterpiece

2. Scarlett's Shortbread Snowglobes

3. Clementine and Elliot's Perfect Polarbears

4. Fred, Benji and Audrey's Gluten-free Shortcake

5. Izzi and Will's Gingerbread Star Cake

Crafts:

Tim's Christmas Wooly Baubles

An incredible £1112.64 has been raised for GNAAS from this one event and will shortly be presented to them.

We wanted to thank everyone who was able to contribute in some way, be it preparing goods and crafts for the contest, or donating to this very worthy cause. As always, we continue to be indebted to The Parents' Association volunteers, without which we would not be able to do this work - thank you and well done!
