Staff Spotlight - Meet Mrs Mackie
It is an absolute privilege to introduce myself as the new EYFS Co-ordinator and Nursery teacher at Mowden Hall. Despite only starting in September, I feel like I have been part of this incredible team and community for far longer and in my opinion that speaks volumes about how amazing the staff, families and children at Mowden Hall are and I am excited about what the future holds for me here.
My life began in London, which is where I lived until University. I had a firm desire to become a teacher and so the search for a University became heavily based around where I could not only do a degree but also a PGCE and Newcastle University became an obvious choice. I selected a Combined Honours course and chose to study French, Sociology and Education. I particularly loved the Education course as I was able to complete some credits by going to schools, giving first-hand experiences, and confirming to me that this was a career I certainly wanted to pursue. After completing my degree, I went straight into a PGCE at Newcastle University and I was even given the choice to add French into my teacher training programme. This was an incredible opportunity as it meant that one out of my three school placements would be at a school in France. It was a rare and special part of my training and has resulted in me developing a real passion for teaching French, which I have enjoyed teaching from Early Years all the way through to Year 6.
There have been many exciting challenges in my teaching profession so far. Training and working in a school in Wallsend; experiencing the education system in America and the Caribbean during a year abroad; and developing my teaching practice further in the North East at Cragside Primary School. I have worked across all ages within the primary school, but by far my favourite years have been those that I spent in Early Years. I am looking forward to bringing my skills, experiences and more to Mowden, to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the youngest children in our school to grow and thrive.
Outside of school life, I have a wonderful family, and together we love to take our red fox labrador, Milo, on walks, and we particularly enjoy exploring new parts of Northumberland as often as possible. I also love to play netball and enjoy cooking and baking at home.
