Staff Spotlight - Meet Mr. Lamb

Meet Mr. Lamb, Head of Languages, Year 7 Form Tutor

I feel very privileged to continue to call this school my home after starting my Mowden career at age eleven and I have been privileged enough to return and teach here for the last seven years, with all the joy and colour that this job brings.

I joined Mowden in year six while my parents lived in Germany, and so took to full boarding immediately. Two terms later, I was in Sauveterre, where I began my love of French. As I met my father for the weekend, and was astounded that he couldn’t interact with the people around him, I knew that I had to keep working on this linguistic skill.

Five years at Uppingham School and four years of a Law and French degree at Newcastle University brought me back to Sauveterre, where the opportunity to be a post-graduate assistant for the academic year in the place that I loved was too tempting to turn down.

I worked 1-to-1 with students, helping them with the various intricacies of the French language, and seeing the progression and elation of a child who understands something they thought was previously impossible told me I had to be a teacher.

I returned to England and Mowden, and have worked ever since to enable my students to understand the connection that you can only get from conversing with someone in their own language. I firmly believe that regardless of starting point or past experience, anyone can find their own successes, and it is an important lesson that I try to reinforce to the children that they are much more capable than they can currently imagine.

I am passionate about community, communication, and the power that groups working together can have and I genuinely love coming to work each day in this wonderful school. Outside of school, I am an ironman triathlete, part-time rugby and cricket player, and ultra runner, as well as exploring and travelling with my partner Sophie.
